God doesn't need us, so why did He create us?

The idea that needfulness (necessity) means frivolity is absurd! Needfulness is matched with wisdom, not absurdity.

For example: A wealthy doctor with a good reputation may treat people without needing anything from them, but he treats them for their own benefit and here we do not describe his act as absurd!

The wisdom and the great purpose behind the action do not revolve in the cycle of need nor in vain!

A swimmer may save a child with mercy and then leave him and go without waiting for the praise of the child's parents.

And here his act is not classified as a need or in vain, but is a generous act and a noble purpose and a good creation, so there is no correlation between needfulness and absurdity!

And the patient's ignorance of the doctor's wisdom does not mean that the doctor's decisions are absurd. Knowledge of divine wisdom does not require an understanding of all dimensions of wisdom, but it is sufficient to understand some of them!

It is enough to know that we are entrusted, the requirements of this entrustment, and to know the existence of this Divine wisdom, so this is enough for us, otherwise we are like the one who disbelieves in what he does not understand.

The Almighty said:

(In fact, they ˹hastily˺ rejected the Book without comprehending it and before the fulfillment of its warnings. Similarly, those before them were in denial. See then what was the end of the wrongdoers!)

[Yunus: 39]

So God is wise and created us for a wise reason - Glory be to Him -.

God is in no need of anyone. Our endeavor, effort and work are only for ourselves.

The Almighty said:

(And whoever strives ˹in Allah’s cause˺, only does so for their own good. Surely Allah is not in need of ˹any of˺ His creation)

[ Al-Ankabut: 6]

As submission to God is the opposite of submission (slavery) in our concept. Slavery (submission) in our concept is that the master takes the good from the slave, but slavery to God is the exact opposite, which is that the master gives the slave a lot of bliss. When God says, (I have not created the Jinn and mankind except to worship me) it means that I did not create the jinn and mankind except to give them love, goodness, dignity and pride. God does not need our worship, rather we are the ones who need this worship, honor, talents and goods that have no limits. God the Generous allowed us to enter (knock at his door) anytime without an appointment.

Why did God create us ?

Everyone would acknowledge that our body parts, such as our eyes, ears, brains and hearts, have a purpose. Wouldn't it then make sense that the individual, as a whole, also has a purpose? God, the All Wise, did not create us to simply wander aimlessly or to only fulfil our basic instincts and desires. Rather, God describes this life as a test. Every person is being tested as to who will choose to acknowledge God and follow His guidance. God says:

"Indeed, We (God) created man … in order to test him; and we gave him hearing and vision. Indeed, We (God) showed him the way, whether he be grateful or ungrateful."

Quran 76:2-3

For many, the underlying issue is not really about believing in God, but about the implications of believing in Him. It would mean being held to account and judged for one's actions, which may be inconvenient for the lives they want to lead. Therefore, the test in this life involves following and humbling ourselves before God in preference to our own desires, pride and ego.
